In 1982, as an enthusiastic six year old, Paula Irvine(now Barron) joined the Glasgow Youth Choir. Agnes Hoey, founder and conductor of the Glasgow Youth Choir, was an inspirational figure and forged a deep love of music and particularly singing, into the heart of the young girl. So much so that, in 1983, Paula's sister, Claire, joined the choir, to see what all the fuss was about and in 1984, at just four years old, the youngest sister, Joanne, also joined.

Lynne Cooper's mother had loved singing throughout her life and had, herself been part of various singing groups and she encouraged Lynne to follow in her footsteps. Louise Cuthbertson had a similar upbringing and was surrounded by music all of her life. Sandie Simpson's(now McGregor) mother was a member of the Glasgow Youth Choir in her childhood and had inspired her daughter with tales of youthful music-making. Louise joined the choir in 1983 with Sandie joining in 1985 and Lynne in 1987.

Sonia Dunlop and Jennifer Murphy both originally hail from Glasgow, where the choir had its roots. The city was full of stories of "Miss Hoey's Choir" and the two girls were interested to experience it for themselves. Sonia joined the choir in 1984 and Jennifer joined in 1988.

From these early beginnings strong friendships were forged as the girls were rigorously classically trained. From singing together for twenty years, the eight friends found their voices could blend to produce sounds which could excite and rouse as well as soothe and inspire audiences.

And so Aria was formed in early 2005 with Jim Drennan accompanying the group on the piano. The nine members of Aria are very proud of their history and look forward to their future together.
